What is Dry Eye Syndrome / Disease

dry eye discomfort Dry Eye is a common condition that occurs when the eyes don’t make enough tears, or the tears dry too quickly.  Often it is a natural symptom of aging but there are also other contributing factors such as if you;

  • wear contact lenses;
  • use a PC regularly;
  • are taking certain medications;
  • going through hormonal changes;
  • spending time in hot or windy climates.

Dry Eye has a wide variety of symptoms and people often don’t realise their eyes are dry.  During your assessment we will perform a full ocular examination, diagnose the type of dry eye you have and determine what treatment you require.

  • Painful, sore, gritty or burning eyes
  • Foreign Body sensation
  • Eye redness
  • Blurred vision
  • Eyes feeling tired or fatigued
  • Watery eyes
  • Intolerance of contact lenses
  • Sensitivity to light

  • Artificial Tears
  • Punctal Plug Insertion
  • Hot Compress
  • Blephex lid hygiene
  • IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment
  • Omega Eye Supplements

At the end of your assessment you will be provided with a treatment plan that is tailor made for you.

The treatment you will require is determined by the type and severity of dry eye that you have. We may also ask you to perfom some treatments at home and we may prescribe you medications such as anti-inflammatory drops or steroids or, in some cases, a course of oral antibiotics.
